SHINING LIGHT FOUNDATION

MINUTES of MEETING HELD:  Tuesday, January 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm

On motion from Bruce, seconded by Julie, the minutes of the meeting held Tuesday, November 5, 2021 were approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

Balance: $10,497.50

Scholarships: $2,500.00

Expenses: $661.57. Renewed the P O Box rental fee for one year, and for the Christmas party

Interest:  $.49

Escrow: $375.00

Donations received: Total $1,600.00 

($1,000.00 from Ande & Bill Hakeman which Shining Light received as part of their annual required minimum distribution; $100.00 from Michelle Mahne with Lafayette Parish School Board. She attended the SLF Christmas party; $500.00 from Live Oak Wealth Advisors to sponsor the SLF Christmas party).  Carolyn has sent thank you letters on behalf of The Shining Light Foundation.

Invested: $88,954.55

The balance of the funds invested as of today is $100,889.00 of which $11,506.00 is in the money market account.

Old Business:

The Shining Light Foundation Board Member Christmas Party was held at the office of Live Oak Wealth Advisors.  Several board members attended.   Bruce played the guitar and Byron sang for us as well as a Christmas carols sung by Mrs. Santa Clause. Guests included Mary Morrison, President of the School Board, and Michelle Mahne, Child Care Resource & Referral Marketing Specialist with the Lafayette Parish School Board. She shared information on the “On Track by 5” program in our community.  This is a tax credit opportunity in Louisiana to redirect the the business taxes to stay in Lafayette Parish. The cap is $5,000.00.

New Business:

Carolyn suggested that we need to invite guests who may be prospective new board members to our Shining Light Foundation Board meetings.  

Applications - none were received.   Since the spread of Covid-19, we do not expect any applications for field trips.
