Per John, no scholarship applications have been received. School is still in session on an A/B rotation. Classes are small.
Special Projects – the board had voted to assist the following organizations.
$500.00 – Rosa’s Angels – Robin McMillian prepares Christmas gift packages for 700 children at a cost of $50.00. Shining Light’s contribution will help support ten of them.
$500.00 – Toys for Tots Lafayette
$500.00 – Hearts of Hope – offers short term counseling for survivors of sexual trauma. The knowledge and skills parents will need to help children deal with potential long term trauma
$500.00 – Foster the Love – they provide support and resources to foster community, focusing in the Acadiana area. Their mission is to care for the children in the Louisiana foster system, support the families that care for these children and educate the community.
Transfer of a second donated piano (keyboard) was made to an autistic, low-income, musically talented child whose family has never owned any musical instrument. Donated by Linda and Morris Hoagland.
Tanya will gather information on how we can communicate available resources to help children’s mental health during the pandemic. John has offered to share the information as a news release in his Saturday morning radio program.
Mildred received an email address to Dee Stanley for the renewal of the Shining Light P O Box rental fee. Bruce will write the check for $106.00 and Mike will bring to the post office.
Old Business
The donated piano was delivered to an elderly, handicapped person. A donation of $300 was made for moving costs. The donor has not been able to find the flute. Cynthia has identified that L. Leo Judice School would accept the donation.
A Target gift card was previously received for $250.00 and SLF has minimally spent for office supplies. Carolyn has given a check for $250.00 to SLF and it will not be considered as a donation. Gift cards expire.
Meeting adjourned at 6:50 pm.
Next meeting date will be held on February 9, 2021 via Zoom meeting.
