MINUTES OF MEETING HELD: Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 6:00 pm

On motion of Bruce, seconded by Mike, the minutes of meeting held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 were approved. 

We had a moment of silence for Lana’s sister who passed on September 11^th.

Treasurer’s Report

The fiscal year started on August 1, 2020.

Present balance: $14,638.46: investments $64,452.85; Escrow $375.00 

YTD: expenses: $0; Scholarships $0; Donations $0; Interest $00.13

Investments are in the Franklin Income Fund and in the Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund.

New Business

Carolyn informed us that June Brillhart has submitted the IRS 990 form for Shining Light.

No applications were received. It was probably too early to receive applications.

Cynthia spoke with David at Prof Erny’s. He confirmed that the instrument rental prices will remain the same for this school year 2020/2021.

Sandra has updated the Shining Light Facebook page to announce we are accepting applications.

New Business – School opening

Cynthia reported that Lafayette Parish started school on a hybrid schedule. Some students go on Tuesday and Thursday while others go on Monday and Wednesday. Some are strictly virtual learning. Schools ordered chrome books in March. It’s going to be very different this year. It is uncertain whether there will be any requests for band instruments due to social distancing. Mike suggested we contact the school board to see in what other ways Shining Light can help. Cynthia will reach out to Jennifer Gardner.

Old Business – Shining Light Bash

Due to the difficulty of organizing a virtual event (how to broadcast, how to sell virtual tickets) it was decided to postpone the Shining Light Bash until 2021. Festival Acadiens will be virtual this year, and Festival International may be virtual in the Spring.
