On motion of Bruce, seconded by Perry, the minutes of meeting held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 were approved. 


Treasurer’s Report

We received an anonymous donation in the amount of $1,200.00 on 5/11/2020 for a special project to assist musicians.


Present balance: $14,579.70: investments $52,428.36; Escrow $375.00 

YTD: expenses: $643.37 Scholarships $9,859.89; Donations $1,850.00; Interest $14.19


New Business – Applications

Due to the Corona Virus school closures, the following activities were cancelled:

Prairie Elementary returned check #134 in the amount of $160.00 for field trips approved on 3/10/2020. (Trayvan Sios $20.00; Profit Jenkins $20.00; Tanya Bindon $60.00; Kevin Rivera $60.00).

Prairie Elementary refunded check #132 in the amount of $60.00 for field trip for Alexis Bienvenu.


Myrtle Place Elementary refunded check #133 in the amount of $1,750.00 for the Martinique Pedigagical trip.


Woodvale Elementary refunded check #131 in the amount of $252.00 for field trips approved ($42.00 each for six students: Jervion Sterling; Jarvion Sterling; Jakayle Sterling; Evianna Thomas; Carter Seay; Evian Thomas). The check was deposited on July 7 and not reflected in today’s treasure’s report.


Special Projects – Support for musicians and band leaders

Due to cancellations, recent donations and availability of funds, in May, via email and telephone calls, the majority of the board approved giving back to the various musicians who have donated their time to perform at our Shining Light Bash events. The musicians have been affected by the imposed shut down of venues due to the Corona Virus.

A check in the amount of $1,300.00 was issued to “Love For People”. This entity assists various musicians. Their website is www.love of people.org. John Williams is the President and also a member of the Rotary Club.

Recap of donations to musicians that have volunteered their time at the various Shining Light Foundation Annual Zydeco Bash. Total disbursed to individual musicians is $5,100.00.

New Business – Meeting with Principals

Cynthia reported that the Principals’ meeting will be held as a virtual meeting. She is waiting on confirmation. The SLF Flyer would be emailed to one person at the school board, and they will email to the principals and counselors.


New Business – Coordinate with Acadiana Symphony

Carolyn spoke with Judy Dunn, board member of the Acadiana Symphony. Carolyn will propose ASO assist the Shining Light Foundation by allowing students to attend the ASO rehearsals for free, or another option is to offer reduced-price tickets for students to attend the ASO performances.


Old Business – Shining Light Bash

The deposit made for the purple T-shirts will be held by the supplier until a new date for the bash is scheduled. UPDATE: Per Cynthia, she spoke with Christina Lopez with T-Shirts Unlimited. No charges were made to the SLF credit card. She has already sold the purple shirts, and said not to worry about the $25.00 printing fee.
