Director’s Report
Grant updates:
Grant
application filed with Gannett Foundation on August 29, 2016
requesting $5,000.00.
Joe is working on grant application to
Pinhook Foundation and will request $5,000.00.
The
proposed budget was approved.
The strategic plan is near
completion and Joe recommends identifying standing committees.
Motion
by Perry, seconded by Troy, that the committee types be accepted,
motion approved.

Applications:
Request
from Prairie Elementary School which was received on August 24, 2016
and approved by e-mail for Ahmed Elgamel for saxophone, cost $355.00,
parent pay $88.75, Shining Light pay $266.25. Approval forms
sent by Michelle on August 24, 2016.
Request
from L. J. Allemon School for Angel Lawrence for trumpet, cost
$250.00, parent pay $62.50, Shining Light to pay $187.50.
On
motion of John, seconded by Bruce, request granted.
Request
from Prairie Elementary School for Charles Andres for trumpet, cost
$250.00, parent pay $62.50, Shining Light to pay $187.50.
On
motion of John, seconded by Perry, request approved contingent on
receiving copy with appropriate signatures.
Requests from
Evangeline Elementary School for musical instruments for 42 students,
cost $250.00 each, parent pay $62.50 each, Shining Light to pay
$187.50 each.
Applications discussed.
It was agreed that
Mike and Troy will contact the teacher and get information as to why
there are so many requests.
Bruce suggested that the telephone number on the website be changed from his phone number to Joe’s and it was agreed. Joe’s telephone number is 337-945-3745.
Troy reported regarding the Principals’ meeting he attended with Cynthia on August 31.
James Balkenhol contacted Carolyn regarding the need at Kaplan High School in Vermillion Parish for musical instruments. Carolyn proposed that Shining Light will serve as fiscal agent for schools outside Lafayette Parish if they find and secure a grant.
It was agreed that the meeting scheduled for September 13, 2016 be cancelled.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:00 pm at Carolyn and Mike’s home at 203 Waterside Drive, Lafayette.
