SHINING LIGHT FOUNDATION
 
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD:  Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6:00 pm
 
LOCATION:  UBS Financial Services, 1023 E. St. Mary Blvd. Lafayette, LA

NEW BUSINESS:
1)  Carolyn reported that the check for $110.00 made to Ridge Elementary per our last meeting appeared on the statement as being paid to Prairie Elementary.  However, the actual check is made payable to Ridge Elementary.  
2) There were no applications received for consideration in today's meeting per John Broussard.
3)  A motion to nominate Perry Scotola as Parlimentarian was made by Sandra, and seconded by Mike.  Motion unamimously passed. 
4)  We received an excellent rating from the teacher at Praire Elementary for the bowling field trip.
5)  John suggested that we track how many students are currently still in the band as they progress to high school.  Carolyn will prepare an e/mail to Mr. Van Wick and Mr. Balkenhol to find out the percentage of students that received assistance from Shining Light that continue in the band.   Mike is suggesting we prepare a list of the students names for them to review.  Carolyn will check if Bruce can compile the list. 
 
SPECIAL PROJECT:  Low income/Underserved children
Cheryl reported that Bancorp South had already allocated CRA funds.    John suggested an official letter from Shining Light should be included when making a request for CRA funds.  Cheryl will work with Carolyn to draft a letter for the board to review.   Perry offered to distribute the letters and brochures.
 
BOARD ACTION CALENDAR:
1)  The date of the SLF fundraiser has been confirmed as April 21, 2015 at Vermilionville
2)  The annual renewal with the Secretary of State for Shining Light was paid by Carolyn for $15.00 on 11/19/2014.
 
FUNDRAISING CONCERT:
1)  We need to get Bruce to add the Fundraising event to the Shining Light Foundation website.   Also, can we add Paypal as a payment option.   Doors open at 5:00 pm, food will be served at 5:30 pm and the bands start playing at 6:00 pm.
2)  T-Shirts - At one of our meetings Julie Eaton indicated she had a second source to procure T-shirts for a lower price.
3)  Carolyn sent an e/mail to LUS for inclusion of our event in their mailing.
3)  Heather Fuller was to send a few samples of the proposed logo for the T-shirts.
4)  John confirmed with Chubby Carrier for the 4/21 event.  We have Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys, Bonsoir Catin, Roddie Romero.   We will try to keep it to 6 bands so they can play 5 to 6 selections each.
 
REVIEW OF MINUTES:
The minutes of 11/4/2014 and 11/17/2014 were approved.
 
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Current balance $27,263.17 plus $20,251.03 in escrow.  Summary for 2014/2015:
$3,577.50 - Scholarships
$   500.00 - Expenses (downpayment for Vermilionville event
$5,299.51 - Donations
$       2.49 - Interest
We also received $50.00 from Janice Roane and $100.00 from UBS matching funds for a contribution from Carolyn French
 
OLD BUSINESS:
We have a Bell Lyre that was donated to Shining Light.  Carolyn has sent an e/mail to Mr. Balkenhol to see if any of the schools might use it.
