Significant Points” OF MEETING HELD: Monday, December 9, 2013 at 5:00 pm

LOCATION: 203 Waterside Drive, Lafayette, LA

1. Approved 4 applications, subject to John's obtaining additonal information for each of them. Issues with the applications included the following:

a. An application for a band instrument was dated in September, although it didn't reach us until this month. John will determine whether the child still needs the funds, and possibly find out why the process was delayed. (I wonder if the parent held the application and delayed the process, possibly until they could pay their portion.)

b. An application for funds for a field trip was dated the same day as the field trip took place. John will find out if the child was allowed to go.

2. Newsletter

Julie has the newletter completed but wants to use 2 photos from the website. Bruce is to identify time and place of photos for her.

3. Publicity:

a. Heather had sent an email proposing contacting media to promote the Shining Light Foundation.

b. Board approved contacting media, but did not approve PSA announcements because of cost.

4.. Personnel:

a. Board approved adding Heather Fuller and Liz Ledet to the Advisory Board. (NOTE: I need the email address for Liz.)

b. Board approved adding Kerry Douglas to our Board of Directors.

NOTES:. I have known Kerry for several years, and suggested to her that she might find our group interesting and our mission worthwhile. She is enthusiastic about our projects, and suggested that the students who receive funds should participate more in the process.

(Kerry made a contribution to Shining Light, but I left her check on the piano at home when I left this morning for physical thereapy....)

c. Board gave tentative approval for Cheryl Evans (my niece) to join our Board of Directors, but she will begin a new job soon and wants to make sure she can schedule attendance at our meetings.

5. Updating literature:

a. Bruce will update our brochures.

b. I believe we depend on Julie to update our stationary. (Julie had up-to-date photos of Madison. She is 2 yrs old now, and is beautiful.)

6. Fundraising concert:

a. John is working on getting a date for the Fundraising Concert at Vermillionville. He has committments from several outstanding artists. He is considering a date in January, although Mardi Gras activities might present a conflict.

b. John will promote the concert on his radio show, and Heather will also contact other media to publicize the event.
