An award of $50.00 per student for summer math classes for 4 students was made to Sylvan Learning Center for the following students: Aimee Couvillon from J. W. James School; Andrea Couvillon from J. W. James School; Christopher Sam from Charles M. Burke Elementary School; and Jamal Washington from Alice Boucher Elementary School.

Christy Sharon with Sylvan Learning Center reported that all of the children showed much improvement in their math facts.  The children were on time, there were no problems with attendance, and the parents expressed their appreciation for these awards.  If Sylvan decides to do a camp at Christmas or Easter, Christy will call us.

Carolyn French reported that we have applied to Citigroup Foundation for a $500 donation under their Volunteer Incentive Program.

Old Business

Melissa Douet is in the process of redoing our Application Form.  Lengthy discussion was held regarding whether or not we should expand the grade levels to whom we offer awards.  It was agreed by all that the grade levels should stay at kindergarten thru fifth grade.

New Business

Carolyn received a request from Jackie Lyle with PASA requesting that they be allowed to make application on behalf of students.  It was agreed by all that our By-Laws require the applications come from the Lafayette Parish Schools.  Carolyn will notify PASA.

Request from Acadiana Symphony that we sponsor a child.   Applications must come from the schools.  Mildred will notify Acadiana Symphony.

Request from American Cancer Society for volunteers and donation.  Not our mission.

Robert Hodge prepared Form 990 for the IRS and moved that it be approved, seconded by Mike Huber, the form is approved.

Motion by Melissa seconded by Robert to approve the expenditure of $100.00 for Ruth Duhon to buy items for the goody bags for students who are unable to buy their own supplies, approved.
