MINUTES OF MEETING HELD: Monday, August 9, 2004, 5:30 p.m.

On motion by Robert Hodge,
seconded by Julie Eaton, Minutes of Meeting of May 10, 2004 approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Balance: $14,527.65 plus
$3,000 donation from Kiwanis of Acadiana, less $200 paid to Sylvan Learning
Center, makes the balance as of this date $17,342.55.
An award of $50.00 per
student for summer math classes for 4 students was made to Sylvan Learning
Center for the following students: Aimee Couvillon from J. W. James School;
Andrea Couvillon from J. W. James School; Christopher Sam from Charles M. Burke
Elementary School; and Jamal Washington from Alice Boucher Elementary School.

Learning Center reported that all of the children showed much improvement in
their math facts. The children were on
time, there were no problems with attendance, and the parents expressed their
appreciation for these awards. If Sylvan
decides to do a camp at Christmas or Easter, Christy will call us.
Carolyn French reported that
we have applied to Citigroup Foundation for a $500 donation under their
Volunteer Incentive Program.
Old Business
Melissa Douet is in the
process of redoing our Application Form.
Lengthy discussion was held regarding whether or not we should expand
the grade levels to whom we offer awards.
It was agreed by all that the grade levels should stay at kindergarten
thru fifth grade.
New Business
Carolyn received a request
from Jackie Lyle with PASA requesting that they be allowed to make application
on behalf of students. It was agreed by
all that our By-Laws require the applications come from the Lafayette Parish
Schools. Carolyn will notify PASA.
Request from Acadiana
Symphony that we sponsor a child.
Applications must come from the schools. Mildred will notify Acadiana Symphony.
Request from American Cancer
Society for volunteers and donation.
Not our mission.
Robert Hodge prepared Form
990 for the IRS and moved that it be approved, seconded by Mike Huber, the form
is approved.
Motion by Melissa seconded by
Robert to approve the expenditure of $100.00 for Ruth Duhon to buy items for
the goody bags for students who are unable to buy their own supplies, approved.
