New Business:

On motion of Ruth, seconded by Julie, 4 students approved to receive awards in the amount of $50 per student, 2 students per session, for the Sylvan Learning Center’s Writing Camp this summer.  Christy Sharon will select the 4 students to receive the awards after talking with their school counselors.  The balance of the cost for each session will be paid $25 by the parent and any remaining cost will be awarded by Sylvan Learning Center.

Applications:

On motion of Julie, seconded by Mike, application from Live Oak Elementary School to award $13.00 ($10.50 for the bus and $2.50) for trip to Baton Rouge to visit USS Kidd to Oeshanna Edmond, approved.

Application from Alice Boucher Elementary School for Latrell White to attend classes in phonics comprehension sponsored by LSU to be held at First Baptist Church at a cost of $299 plus $23 for materials.  Carolyn contacted the student’s mother, Monique Bernard, while we were still in session to inquire if the mother was willing and able to get the child to the 2 hour sessions per day and was informed that the mother could not take off from work to get the child to these sessions and had no other reliable transportation to get the child there.  Consequently, the application is considered withdrawn.

It was agreed that there would be no meetings in June or July.

Next meeting scheduled for Monday, August 9, 2004 at 5:30 pm at the Smith Barney Office, 400 E. Kaliste Saloom.
