SHINING LIGHT FOUNDATION

 

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD:            Monday, March 8, 2004

 

LOCATION:               Smith Barney Office, 400 E. Kaliste Saloom, Lafayette, LA

Guests, Richard Latiolais and Sheri Lazare with Kiwanis of Acadiana were introduced.  Kiwanis of Acadiana will hold the Zydeco Pancake Breakfast at Acadian Village on Saturday, June 5, 2004 from 7:00 am to 11:00 am.    Proceeds divided in one-thirds from the breakfast will benefit the Early Intervention Program of LARC, Shining Light Foundation, and Kiwanis. 

 

Motion by Lou Montgomery, seconded by John Broussard, that we participate in this fund raiser, approved.

 

Ms. Lazare invited Carolyn, Lou and John, and others who wish to attend, to the Kiwanis luncheon on Thursday, April 22, 2004, to speak to the Kiwanis Club regarding the mission of Shining Light.

 

John, Lou, Robert, and Tony agreed to attend the Pancake Breakfast on June 5 to assist in any way possible.

 

On motion by Melissa, seconded by Robert, Minutes of Meeting held February 16, 2004, approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report

We have a balance of $9,846.12, plus a contribution of $250 from members of Krewe of Victoria.

 

It was suggested that we need to formulate a budget for the coming year.  It was agreed as follows:

Income goal                                    $ 5,000.00                       

Awards goal                                        2,250.00                             50%

Expenses                                           250.00                               5%

For Foundation                            2,500.00                             45%

 

Motion by Melissa, seconded by Lou, to deposit $5,000 in a 3 month certificate of deposit, approved.


Discussion was had regarding obtaining the services of a CPA.  Robert and Bruce will each check with CPA’s to determine the costs involved.

 

Old Business

Bruce is still working on the website.

 

Tony brought sample letterheads and envelopes and forms were selected by the members.

 

New Business

 

Applications:

Request from Heather Bourgeois, Carencro Elementary School, for rental of a flute for $250.  Motion by Lou, seconded by Mike, that Lou check with Prof Ernie’s to see that lease is approved as with previous rentals we have subsidized and if so, Lou is authorized to approve the rental.

 

Motion by Robert, seconded by Mike, to send numerous children on field trips, approved.  A copy of the list of children, their schools, and amounts of awards will be attached hereto at the April meeting.

 

Meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm.
