Minutes of Meeting of
December 8, 2003 corrected as to first paragraph under New Applications in that
the price for picture with Santa should read $3.50 instead of $2.50. On motion by Melissa Douet, seconded by
Julie Eaton, Minutes as corrected approved.
Thank you notes received from
the children that went Shreveport on the field trip and also thank you notes
from the children who went to see Santa were passed around to members to
read. The thank you notes were given to
Carol Mahagan for our scrapbook.
Treasurer’s Report
Statement for this month has
not yet been received, however, approximate balance is $10,220.00.
Old Business
Nothing new on the website.
Newsletter: Carol still
working on the newsletter. She will add
Gerald and Phyllis Broussard to the list of donors who will receive the
newsletter.
New Business
Prof Ernie’s Music Company
reported to Lou Montgomery that the parent or parents of 3 additional students
had met with him and signed leases for musical instruments. Shining Light’s share of the lease amounts
previously approved are as follows: from J. Wallace Jones School: Janise
Joseph, $67.50, violin; from Carencro Heights School: Raswana Davis, $160,
clarinet; and Dillion Davis, trombone, $120.
New Applications:
Request from 3 children in
one class and 2 children in another class at Alice Boucher Elementary School,
Ashley Thomas, Jeremy Crosby, Dylan Zenon, Rob’Shean Moncreary, and Alonda Morgan,
for field trip on January 26, 2004 to attend “The Story of Dr. Martin Luther
King” at the Heymann Center at a cost of $7 per student ($5 for admission and
$2 for the bus). On motion by Melissa
Duhon, seconded by Mike Huber, awards approved.
Request from Live Oak
Elementary for 2 children, Courtney Allen and Stefan Ortiz-Herredon, for a
field trip to Vermillionville in the amount of $5.50 per student ($1 for the
bus, $1.50 for a craft, and $3 admission.
On motion of Julie Eaton, seconded by Michelle Izzo, awards approved.
Carolyn reported that she had
received an oral request from Phil Todora, father of Sarah, requesting
aid. She regretted to inform him that
Shining Light awards scholarships in small amounts only to children in grades K
through 5.
On motion of Melissa Douet,
seconded by Lou Montgomery, and approved by all members present, Tony Moore
named to the Board of Directors.
In response to correspondence
and telephone conversations the following changes have been made to the Board
of Directors and to the Advisors:
Dana Woodbridge Brignac moved
from Board to Advisors
Melanie Martin moved from
Board to Advisors
Margaret Curette Patton
removed from Board as she has moved to Houston
