SHINING LIGHT FOUNDATION

 

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD:            Monday, April 14, 2003, at 5:30 p.m.

On motion of Julie Eaton, seconded by Carol Mahagan, Minutes of Meeting of March 10, 2003, approved.

 

Introduction of guests:

Susan Morton and Carol Wong were welcomed to accept a donation of 5 violins to the Acadiana Symphony Conservatory by Richard Lopez and Juanita Lopez David.  Susan Morton spoke of  fund raisers by the Conservatory and of programs such as Adopt a Prodigy which are funded by the Conservatory and for which it raises funds.  Under the program, children are provided a free instrument and lessons.  The program costs about $600 to $800 per child.  Our Foundation will discuss donations to the program at a later meeting.

 

Renee Miller from the Children’s Museum spoke regarding admissions for children to the Museum and sponsorships.

 

Monica Carraway, a teacher in Iberia Parish, is interested in starting a branch of Shining Light Foundation to offer scholarships to students in Iberia schools.

 

Treasurer’s Report

We have a balance of $6,343.6l

Thus far, the Foundation as awarded 72 scholarships.

 

Old Business

Julie Eaton reported that we did not get the Kiwanis Grant. 

We have applied for a grant from Target.

 

New Business

Motion by Carol Mahagan, seconded by Julie Eaton, to appoint Michelle Izzo to the Board of Directors, approved.  Michelle will check to see if she can serve on the Grants Committee or if she would have a conflict of interests.

 

 


New Applications

Motion by Julie Eaton, seconded by Carol Mahagan, to approve the following 4 applications from J. W. Faulk Elementary School for a field trip to visit the Courthouse and have lunch at a cost of $2.00 each transportation and $6.50 each for lunch, approved:

Motion by Julie, seconded by Carol, to approve the following 4 applications from J. W. Faulk Elementary School for a field trip to visit the Courthouse and have lunch at a cost of $2.00 each transportation and $6.50 each for lunch, approved:

Motion by Mike Huber, seconded by Julie, to approve the following applications of 8 special education students from J. W. Faulk Elementary School for a field trip to visit the Children’s Museum at a cost of $5.00 each admission, $6.00 each for a meal, and $1.00 each transportation, approved:
