MINUTES OF MEETING HELD: March 11, 2002, 5:30 p.m.

Copies of Minutes of meeting held February 4, 2002 distributed to all members present. Motion by Robert Hodge to approve the Minutes, seconded by Melissa Wattigny, carried.

Present balance in the Foundation’s account is $6,613.84.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND ACTION TAKEN AS FOLLOWS:

Motion by Robert Hodge, seconded by Melissa Wattigny, to deny the following applications as being untimely filed and too late to fund: Kayla Richards; Nakahri Celestine; Darren Cooper; Bryson Siner; Shavon Figaro; Veronika Book; and Johua Menard; and Devon Zeno denied because the request had already been funded out of the school’s field trip account. Motion carried. Carol will send a letter to the school telling the school of the Foundations decision.

Motion by Robert Hodge, seconded by Melissa Wattigny, to fund request of D’Angelo Sonnier, Truman Elementary School, for $70, one half of tuition to UL summer school program for which he has been accepted. Motion carried.

Motion by Mike Huber to approve, seconded by Carol Mahagan, funding the following applications for $20 each for Baton Rouge field trip on April 29: Shawntaray Senegal; Larry Cobert; Isaiah Rhymes; and Russel Julien. Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS

By agreement of all members present, the letterhead will be amended to show the “candle” as the “I” in Light; Ph.D. added to Carolyn French’s name and “Dr” deleted; Penny Black’s name and Katharine Schendel’s name removed from list of Board of Directors, and Melanie Martin and Carol Mahagan added to the list of Board of Directors. The letterhead will be printed on pale yellow regular paper. The lists of officers and directors on the brochure will be amended to conform to the lists on the letterhead. The brochures will be printed on pale yellow card stock paper.

Committee named to work on applying for a grant from the Junior League in the fall:

Melissa Wattigny will check on placing the Shining Light Foundation on the Junior League website.
